a letter from daddy...

Dear Lincoln,
You are old enough to hear
and recognize the sound of my voice
(kick twice if this is true)

This whole experience is a little strange...maybe you agree.
So far, mom has done the heavy lifting in this project known as parenting;
you are probably wondering what my role will be as Dad.

(I'm excited to see if you'll actually look like me)

From what I understand, becoming a Dad is a learning process;
you will learn to walk and talk,
while I learn to become increasingly
corny and embarrassing.
You will learn to say "please" and "thank you,"
while I just try to please you.
I'll be honest (insert Abe joke here)
and say that I only can be sure of just one thing:
my love for you is "conditional"...
as long as you are my son,
I will love you.

guess what i found...

i found all these books at a local thrift store and scored the group of them for under $8! i was pretty excited! we had been thrifting all day without much luck but on our last stop, we discovered a huge bookshelf full of kids books. yeah, it was pretty great.
but books weren't my only great find. thanks to my friend, cori, i found myself browsing baby clothes at the cutest kids consignment shop (children's orchard). they have an awesome selection of baby clothes for such an affordable price. i was like a kid in candy store and it was hard to show some restraint. my favorite purchase were some little corduroy pants for lincoln. he's going to be one cute little man. i'm just sure of it.
seriously, how cute are baby clothes? i can't get over it!
i am so excited to just be a mommy & hold my little guy in my arms.
just a few more months... :)

happy thursday!

baby shower!

we are home after a great weekend in florida! my mom was kind enough to host a baby shower during our visit and i was overwhelmed by all the love and support! we are truly grateful for everyone who came, especially those of you that drove over an hour to get there. it means so much! oh and just so everyone knows, my sister leanna made those awesome owl cupcakes! that was her little surprise for me. aren't they adorable? i absolutely love them!

now that i'm in my third trimester, our next goal or project is to tackle the nursery. the guest room in our apartment is full of goodies from the shower that just need some organizing or a place to go...ikea, here we come! we'll be sure to keep everyone updated as we slowly make progress on lincoln's nursery. exciting times!

happy tuesday, friends!

27 weeks!

one week from today & i'll finally be in my last trimester! i honestly am surprised when every new week rolls around at how fast time goes by. i guess it helps to be somewhat busy so the days & weeks don't drag on. this weekend we're heading to florida for a baby shower & to be with my family. i am seriously so stoked for this trip! some of my dearest friends will be there as well so it'll be worth the 8 hour drive there & back just to see everyone & be able to celebrate our little man with them...

i hope everyone had a great weekend that possibly included some cooler fall temps. here in north carolina, we're just excited that we finally hit the 60's at night - happy monday! :)

it was a root beer float kind of day...

over our labor day weekend, we were exploring some shops when joel came across these ginormous mugs from world market (seriously, they are huge!). he immediately mentioned how awesome it would be to have root beer floats in them. with some persuasion on his part, we finally purchased the mugs along with some vintage soda, ice cream and then headed home to have our "root beer float picnic" in our living room. and yes, i did say living room because it was pretty unbearable outside that day. just way too muggy & hot.

anyway, i hoped you enjoyed this silly post about our root beer float adventure. happy thursday!

zucchini breakfast pie.

i'll be the first one to tell you that i'm a huge fan of breakfast food (and so is my hubs). i'm talking anything that fits the breakfast category - cereal, bagels, pastries, quiche, french toast, waffles...oh & let's not forget about bacon. probably the best breakfast food ever if you ask me. everything really is better with bacon so when i saw a recipe for a zucchini breakfast pie, my thoughts immediately went to "wow. that looks good but it would be even better with bacon" and off i went modifying the recipe to suit my taste buds & here's what i got. oh and by the way, it's pretty darn delicious. i dare you to just eat one slice.

Zucchini Breakfast Pie:

1 package (8 ounces) refrigerated crescent rolls
2 medium zucchini, sliced lengthwise & quartered
1/4 butter, cubed
1/2 teaspoon dried parsley
1/2 teaspoon dried basil
1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
1/2 teaspoon pepper
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
2 eggs, lightly beaten
2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese (all I had was cheddar & parmesan so I combined the two)
6 pieces of cooked bacon, crumbled (or torn if you prefer bigger pieces)
1 medium Roma tomato, thinly sliced

Separate the crescent dough into eight triangles: place in a greased 9-inch pie plate with the points facing toward the center. Press into bottom and up on the side to form a crust. Seal seams and perforations. Bake at 375 degrees for 5-8 minutes or until lightly browned.

Meanwhile, in a large skillet, saute zucchini in butter until tender; stir in the seasonings. Spoon into crust. Combine the eggs, cheese and bacon. Pour over zucchini mixture and top with tomato slices. Bake at 375 degrees for 20-25 minutes or until a knife inserted near the center comes out clean. Let stand for 5 minutes before cutting then slice it up & enjoy!

Happy Wednesday, everyone!

food truck rodeo.

 apparently, i'm a messy eater.

baby onesies! thought about purchasing one but not for $12...

ok, so if you've never visited a food truck, my advice is....GO!
it's such a unique experience & of course, so much fun to
taste all the different specialty foods that
these awesome people make.

downtown durham here in north carolina hosts what
they call the "food truck rodeo". pretty much every food
truck from the area was present & they were serving up burgers,
crepes, organic salads, good old fashioned BBQ, donuts,
greek cuisine, gourmet popsicles & anything else you
can possibly imagine.

we ate at BAGUETTEABOUTIT & it was a huge hit with us!
they take fresh baguettes, put a hole in them and then
they stuff them with all kinds of sausages & yummy sauces.
talk about pure genius. seriously, so good & worth
the 15 minute wait in line.

we hope everyone (or most everyone) enjoyed their extra

long weekend and that you got to spend it with the ones you love.

happy tuesday!

26 weeks!

only two weeks to go until i hit the final trimester. craziness.

our little guy is moving around more and more & his
"ninja kicks" are feeling stronger everyday. he totally
jabbed me in the ribs during our church
service yesterday and boy, did it hurt!
totally caught me by surprise...

oh well. at least he's the cutest ninja ever. :)

hope that everyone is having a wonderful holiday & happy monday!
